SUMMER SCHOOL
2022 YORK
Two separate weeks of drawing and painting in August.
Monday 1st - Friday 5th and Monday 8th - Friday 12th
For adults of all levels of ability. Minimum age sixteen.
Four spaces per week are available in Seek Studio, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Week 1 Monday 1st – Friday 5th August
GREEN SPACES
‘Painting from nature is not copying the object, it is realising one’s sensations.’ Paul Cezanne
The green spaces in York will be our inspiration for this week. Over this last year we have realised even more the healing power of being around nature, our intimate connection to it for our general wellbeing. Starting from drawing on location for the first two days, you will gather a wealth of visual research in a variety of materials. This work will be developed back in the studio where demonstrations in colour-mixing of paint, composition and tips on the practical use of materials will be given. You will see your work progress from the initial sketch to the resolved painting.
Slide lectures of relevant artists will be given throughout.
Week 2 Monday 8th – Friday 12th August
HISTORICAL YORK
Your tutor Colin Black MA (RCA) has over thirty years of teaching experience. Each week will feature a short slide lecture, complemented by practical demonstrations of methods and materials.
"I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to take their creativity further"
"As a beginner I have found the classes both instructive and inspiring. Colin guides our work with care, lending us his obvious love and knowledge of art. I look forward to each new lesson."
"I came to art late and had been doing very little. I booked onto the summer school and I wasn't disappointed. Colin's explanations and demonstrations very accessible and he has a wealth of experience and skill to share. I'm hoping, for myself, that this will prove a bit of a watershed."
All materials and tea and coffee included in the price of £290 for each week.
Each day runs from 9.30am – 4.30pm. Lunch (not provided) 1 – 2pm. Mondays and Tuesdays each week are on location.
