Week 1
31 July - 4 August
DRAWING & PAINTING
from the still life
A week of working in the studio from a colourful still life. You will be taught how to develop your work through creating smaller studies in a variety of materials including pencil, charcoal, ink, pastels, oil paint and collage. Demonstrations on their use and the handling of colour will be given throughout. The week will culminate in producing a finished piece of work based on your previous visual discoveries.
We will take inspiration from artists including Henri Matisse, Paul Cezanne and Pierre Bonnard through a slide lecture. Group tutorials and one-to-one teaching will be part of the learning process. This course is for all levels of ability.
The course will be held at Seek Studio and is limited to four students. For all levels of ability. All materials and tea and coffee are provided and included in the price.
Week 2
7 – 11 August
PRINTMAKING
An opportunity to try out a variety of printmaking processes in one week. You will learn about mono printing, making collagraphs and using dry point etching to develop your own photographs or drawings. This is a very technique-orientated medium and demonstrations will be given throughout the process.
Printmaking is a fantastic medium for developing images, experimenting with different compositions and colours. You will learn how visual ideas can be explored in greater depth and end the week with a sequence of prints that demonstrate your own creative process. We will also look at how printmakers of the past have used the medium to their own advantage.
The course will be held at Seek Studio and is limited to four students. For all levels of ability. All materials and tea and coffee are provided and included in the price.
Your tutor Colin Black MA (RCA) has over thirty years of teaching experience. Each week will feature a short slide lecture, complemented by practical demonstrations of methods and materials.
"I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to take their creativity further"
"As a beginner I have found the classes both instructive and inspiring. Colin guides our work with care, lending us his obvious love and knowledge of art. I look forward to each new lesson."
"I came to art late and had been doing very little. I booked onto the summer school and I wasn't disappointed. Colin's explanations and demonstrations very accessible and he has a wealth of experience and skill to share. I'm hoping, for myself, that this will prove a bit of a watershed."
All materials and tea and coffee included in the price of £290 for each week.
Each day runs from 9.30am – 4.30pm. Lunch (not provided) 1 – 2pm.
